How to Combine Your Jewelry

by Taitus

You don't need a styling course to look great wearing several pieces at once. With these simple rules, mixing metals, stacking rings, and layering necklaces looks intentional, not overdone.

Mixing silver and gold — yes, you can

The "only one metal at a time" rule is outdated. Mixing 18k gold plating with 925 silver or stainless steel looks modern when done with intention, not at random.

  • Pick a "dominant" metal (the one you repeat most) and use the other as an accent
  • Repeat the secondary metal at least twice (e.g. a ring and an earring) so it looks deliberate
  • Pieces with both tones in one (like silver with gold plating) work as a "bridge" between the two

Stacking rings

Adjustable rings are perfect for this — you can mix sizes and fingers without committing to one fixed size.

  • Combine different widths: one thin + one wider statement ring
  • Mix textures: one plain, one with zirconia, one twisted
  • Don't repeat the same design on multiple fingers — vary the shape so it doesn't look uniform
Tip: if you don't know your exact size, start stacking with adjustable rings — see how they work in our size guide.

Layering necklaces

The key to making several necklaces look good together, not tangled, is varying the length — not the design.

  • Combine 3 different lengths: choker (40cm) + princess (45cm) + matinee (50cm)
  • Let one have a bigger pendant as the focal point — the rest can be more delicate
  • If they tangle when you put them on, put on the longest one first and finish with the shortest

Asymmetric earrings

Wearing a different design in each ear is a real trend, not a mistake — and it's an easy way to use two pieces you already own separately.

The 3-piece rule

When in doubt, count: necklace, earrings, rings, and bracelets each count as "one piece." Max 3-4 visible pieces at once usually looks balanced without overdoing it.
